スカイウォーカー役のハミルはツイッターで予告編に触れ、「まだセリフがない。ライアン監督の方が僕よりセリフが多い」と冗談交じりにつぶやいた。
ファンの間では新しい出演者を巡って、デル・トロが悪役のシスを演じるのではないかといった憶測も飛び交っている。
エピソード８は２０１７年１２月に公開予定。今年１２月１６日に公開されるスピンオフ作品の「ローグ・ワン」にも何かヒントがあるかもしれない。
